Meet the face
behind the posts
Thanks for stopping by!
My name is Aaron, and I am a husband, a father of two (these dudes are out of control), and a Veteran. I started this blog because when I reflect on my time in service, I remember coming back from missions, training ops, and doing a debrief, an after-action report, lessons learned. As we transitioned from our time in service, where are our lessons learned? Because let us be honest, we all do not come out of service and knock it out of the park. Some succeed, and we look at them and wonder what I need to do to be that person. While others fail and we ask the same questions "What happened? They were an amazing (insert branch)!" Then you have those that struggle but do not allow that to keep them down.
I am part of that category. I transitioned out of the Marine Corps right during the peak of COVID. Companies were laying off their employees, and nobody was hiring. I eventually looked at a staffing agency and took a job as a dock loader for a metal company, getting paid $14 an hour. My last assignment was the drill master of Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., a high-profile position for a Gunnery Sergeant and now was at my lowest. I had a family to maintain, and I needed to put food on the table. After three months, I decided to apply to Texas Christian University for graduate studies. TCU was my childhood dream school, and I never believed I could afford to attend (I will talk about that at a different time), but I was accepted and started school in the fall of 2020. I have a friend that helped me land a sales internship that eventually led to a supervisor position within the same company. My goal is to continue sharing through my experiences and others how our leadership skills are such a valuable resource in the civilian sector. We will talk about leadership, and lessons learned, success, and failures as we take off one uniform and put on another. My goal, in the end, is to help those not make the same mistake as I did and learn to have a higher platform to dive into this new world.
Semper,
Aaron "El Veterano"
