You are sitting on your couch; the Dallas Cowboys are on the three-yard line with five seconds on the clock. Dak in the shotgun calls hut, and it's a quick slant pass to Ceedee Lamb and Beep...Beep...Beep... "Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled program" well, Matthew McConaughey will not run for Texas Governor.

“...freedom comes with responsibilities and that great leaders serve.”

McConaughey, in his video, goes on to say that "service is taking on responsibility today so we can have more freedom tomorrow." See, being a leader is not just in corporate America! Leadership is a holistic approach, in my view. It is about being balanced in our family, life, and work and, I specifically put it in that order because that is what is important in my leadership priorities. McConaughey is speaking on why he has decided not to run for governor of Texas. Yet, his video is more than just making a public announcement on his decision to run for an elected position is about us. As individuals leading through service, being a servant-based leader for others.

"...service is making the better choice for you and me..."

Growing up in the Marine Corps and learning a servant-leadership life, examples like McConaughey publicly go out and speak about serving others; it is about making those choices to make things better for everyone, not just an individuals through service, being a servant-leader is the physical manifestation of your qualities and your commitment to others.

Personally, a leader does not just influence change in their job, but they inspire and motivate a change in their community and, more importantly, in their home. We often overlook the privilege we have to lead others. It took me a while to fully understand the weight carried as a leader. I only gained an understanding and appreciation as I learned from exceptional leaders that I had the privilege of serving. As I continue to enjoy this next phase of my life, post-Marine Corps, I see, and it breaks my heart that so many people see, as the opportunity to assume leadership positions as a means for self-gratification. We need to see our upward success in the organization as the umbrella of inspiration, the influence of motivation to increase and to inspire change in so many more people.

Saved Rounds

It is this simple. BE A GOOD DUDE/DUDETTE! When one person succeeds, it isn't an individual effort. There was someone there that guided, mentored, opened a door for you, or even saw that upward potential in you. Please pay it forward.

Watch the video; you might learn something new!

Semper,

Aaron
